Lotus Cup Europe to return to continent’s finest race circuits in 2022

Monday 13 December 2021

The 2022 Lotus Cup Europe season will return to many of the continent’s finest race circuits, all of which have hosted Formula 1 Grand Prix.

Open to the world-famous British sportscar manufacturer’s products, including the Elise, Exige, Evora and 2-Eleven, Lotus Cup Europe is an FIA International Series, with a champion awarded using a points system that gives fair weighting to each class.

The new season begins at Paul Ricard in France, where the closely-fought 2021 title race concluded. Supporting the hugely-popular Grand Prix Camions event, three races will get the campaign underway.

The championship will then move on to Germany in May, with a return to the Hockenheim Historic event, which celebrates Lotus F1 legend Jim Clark. It will be the first time this event has been held since 2019, with the pandemic necessitating a two-year hiatus.

Next up will be the first of three rounds supporting DTM and a return to Italy following a hugely-successful round at Monza in 2021. This time Imola will be the location, the venue enjoying a renaissance following its return to the F1 calendar.

Lotus Cup Europe will temporarily jump off the DTM tour for a sojourn at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium in July for a special 50-minute pit stop race at the mid-point of the season. This will be followed by the final two DTM-supporting rounds at the Nürburgring in August and a return to Spa-Francorchamps in September.

The season finale will return to its traditional home, supporting the 24h Camions on the Le Mans Bugatti circuit. The new champion is certain to be crowned on the famous La Sarthe podium after three thrilling races in front of a huge crowd.
